Complete Guide on Stress Top Things That Affect Stress (Based on Science) And Tips to Fight Stress Effectively

Stress Decoder: How Food & Daily Habits Rewire Your Brain

Kung mahilig ka magbasa ng sci-fi o psychology books, alam mo na stress is basically your body’s “alarm system.” Pero kapag chronic stress, parang computer na naka-on 24/7 — nag-o-overheat, bumabagal, at nagkaka-bug. The good news?

Serotonin – “The Mood Stabilizer” → parang brain’s calm app. Kapag balanced, you feel happy and content. Kulang? Anxiety at irritability.

Cortisol – “The Stress Hormone” → parang fire alarm. Good for danger, bad if laging mataas (chronic stress = puyat, brain fog). Para kang laging nasa “red alert mode,” kahit wala namang emergency.

Dopamine – “The Reward Chemical” → achievement unlocked hormone.

Helps relax the brain and improve sleep. Kapag kulang, parang walang off switch ang utak mo—lagi kang alert at hirap makatulog.

πŸ” Top Things That Affect Stress (Based on Science)

1. Kulang sa tulog= hyper-reactive amygdala (emotional center). Small triggers feel big.

2. Caffeine overload – Coffee is life, pero sobra nito = higher cortisol. Kapag sobra ang kape, parang pinipindot mo lagi yung “panic button” ng katawan mo.

3. Sedentary lifestyle – Walang movement = walang endorphins (natural anti-stress). Isipin mo exercise as free medicine na built-in sa katawan mo—hindi lang pampapayat, pang-calibrate din ng mood.

4. Digital overload – Doomscrolling overstimulates the brain, leading to fatigue. Kapag sobrang screen time, parang overloaded hard drive—ang bilis mapagod at bumagal ang system.

5. Social isolation – Humans are wired to connect. Lack of bonds = more stress hormones. Kahit introvert ka, simple bonding or chat with a friend acts like a reset button for your brain.

πŸ₯— Foods That Actually Help Fight Stress

Dark Chocolate (70% up) – Flavonoids lower cortisol, improve mood. Kaya’t “medically approved” na minsan mag-choco break.

Fatty Fish (Salmon, Sardines) – Omega-3s regulate serotonin. Good for the heart, good for the brain.

Bananas – Vitamin B6 + magnesium = supports serotonin & dopamine. Simple fruit, pero mood booster na rin.

Nuts & Seeds – Magnesium calms the nervous system. Perfect pang-snack na may hidden anti-stress powers.

Green Tea – L-theanine = relaxed but alert. Hindi ka groggy, pero less tense.

Fermented Foods – Boost gut microbiome → less anxiety. Gut health = brain health, kasi konektado sila through the gut-brain axis.

✅ Clear Advice

Prioritize 7-9 hours sleep (hindi optional).

Limit caffeine after 2PM.

Move at least 30 mins a day (walking counts).

Eat brain-calming foods consistently.

Stay socially connected—even simple chats count.

πŸ‘‰ Stress isn’t the enemy—unmanaged stress is. With the right fuel and habits, pwede kang maging kalmado, focused, at “bug-free.”

Examples: fresh fruits, gulay, whole grains, nuts, seeds, fresh fish, free-range eggs, lean meat.

Pros:

  • Long-lasting energy → walang energy crash.

Cons:

Examples: white rice, pandesal, instant noodles, potato chips, biscuits, cornstarch desserts (maja blanca, biko), sweetened kamote fries.

Pros:

  • Mabilis magbigay ng energy.
  • Madaling mahanap at mura.
  • Comfort food sa culture natin.

Cons:

Whole Foods / Low Glycemic Choices

  1. Brown rice, red rice, quinoa – mas mabagal magtaas ng sugar vs white rice.
  2. Leafy greens (malunggay, kangkong, pechay, spinach) – mataas sa vitamins A, C, K at fiber.
  3. Low-sugar fruits (berries, avocado, santol, suha) – antioxidants at healthy fats.
  5. Nuts and seeds (kasuy, sunflower seeds, chia seeds) – healthy fats, magnesium.
  6. Lean meats (chicken breast, lean beef, pork tenderloin) – high protein, low saturated fat.
  7. Tubers na low GI (kamote, ube, gabi) – complex carbs na may fiber.

Bad Foods to Avoid (lalo kung may lahing diabetic o hypertensive)

  2. Sugary drinks (softdrinks, powdered juice, milk te
a, sweetened coffee) – pure sugar load.
  3. Refined breads (pandesal, white loaf, ensaymada) – mabilis magtaas ng sugar.
  4. Instant noodles at chips – high sodium, low nutrients.
  5. Processed meats (hotdog, tocino, longganisa, spam) – high salt, preservatives.
  6. Sweets and desserts (leche flan, halo-halo, cake) – sugar overload.
  7. Fried fast food – trans fats at excess oil na nagpapainit ng katawan at joints.

Things To Do para Maging Healthy

  1. Practice portion control – kahit healthy, kapag sobra, nagiging fat storage.
  2. Low-carb or controlled-carb eating – gaya ng sinasabi ni Dr. Brian Aubrey Castillo, “Sugar is the silent killer — every excess gram triggers inflammation at insulin spikes.”
  3. Maglakad o gumalaw after meals – para bumaba agad ang blood sugar.
  4. Hydrate well – uminom ng 8–10 baso ng tubig, iwas softdrinks.
  5. Prioritize sleep – kulang sa tulog = sugar cravings + low immunity.
  6. Stress management – dahil stress hormones can increase belly fat.
  7. Regular check-up – blood sugar, cholesterol, BP monitoring.

Foods for Specific Health Goals

Para Mag-reduce ng Inflammation

  • Salmon, sardinas, tamban (omega-3)
  • Turmeric at luya (anti-inflammatory compounds)
  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Olive oil at coconut oil (healthy fats)

Para Mag-increase ng Energy

  • Kamote, quinoa, brown rice (slow-release carbs)
  • Bananas (potassium para sa muscle function)
  • Eggs (high-quality protein)
  • Nuts (steady energy from healthy fats)

Para sa Brain Health

  • Fatty fish (EPA & DHA for memory and focus)
  • Blueberries at strawberries (antioxidants)
  • Dark chocolate (flavonoids)
  • Avocado (monounsaturated fats for brain cell health)

Para sa Bone Health

  • Malunggay at spinach (calcium, vitamin K)
  • Sardinas na may buto (calcium + vitamin D)
  • Almonds (magnesium for calcium absorption)
  • Yogurt at kefir (probiotics + calcium)

Bottom Line

ANG BANDANG RADAR = Edgar, Onin, Chris and Trd

RADAR – Anthology Tribute to the Beatles LIVE @ Funky Monkey

RADAR ® – Anthology Tribute to the Beatles LIVE @ Funky Monkey (The Complete Set)

SETLIST:

Saturday (I Can’t Wait) – Radar original song
Dear Prudence (Beatles Cover)
Taxman/The End (Beatles Cover)
Diskohaus – Radar original song

Payback Time

This is the second gig we played at Funky Monkey Bar and Grill, the first one was just last month which was an Eraserheads Tribute. Christ was absent and so we were left with no choice but to play with a trio : Trd on drums , Onin, the bass and Edgar on guitars vocals. This previous first gig was hell. I was trying to play decent lead while also doing my parts as vocalist. It felt awkward even if Eks from pop rock band Radyo tried to fill in the gaps that Christ left due to a bad heart.

Nevertheless, we played okay on that event.

And then came this one. Anthology- A Tribute to The Beatles @ Funky Monkey Bar which happened just last night (May 30, 2013) . It was a gig that I’ve been waiting for. The band, RADAR love the BEATLES. We thought that this is a good time to vindicate ourselves and play darn good, or atleast better than the previous gig. Fortunately Chris was now feeling okay and was ready to rock. Tenacious Denz, our ever loyal friend and comrade happens to be free that night (Day off nya sa pagiging tech support, hehe) and offered to lend us a little help so we can get by by doing back vocals and all around support.

We thought it was payback time.

– Edgar Berones

When We Was Young

Wild and Free

Like any other bands, ours went through the Young, Wild and Free phase. We were punks in a sense. Wala sa tono at puro ingay.

But those were the days. It was immense fun. Hiraman ng gitara. Hiraman ng gadget. Inuman. Tutugtog kahit walang pera.

Carte Blanche

It has been an uphill battle. It was never easy. Stage was heaven and hell. But it was more heaven than hell so the ride was good. When we were younger the playing was tough. Everyone was nervous everytime we set foot onstage. We all felt that butterfly in our stomach yes, but we dare not show that we were indeed nervous. Or is it just me? I’m guessing that the others are too but if we try to show it then what’s the point of getting on stage and play rock n roll if we all are just a bunch of chickens on stage?

So I try to cover my shyness by playing louder guitar and singing my guts out! Nobody wanted to sing. So I did it myself.

It was a chance meeting with Chris and Edgar that started it all. We idolized the Beatles and everything revolved on Beatles music and their lifestyles. It was a relentless pursuit of creating good music. Before, yung name namin was FlyingSausage but it failed to
soar high so to speak, members come and go. When drummer Gep left we figure might as well get a new drummer, change our band name and create far better music.

Band Name: RADAR ( raydΓ€r)

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_meaning_of_Radar

Baket RADAR? kasi lahat kami may kanya kanyang trip na musical soundwaves
at each of us contribute that soundwaves or musical influences to the sound of the band.

Onin, who was with another band [60’s tribe, 2ec2z [guitars, bass, vox] also plays/jams with us from time to time became a permanent crew for RADAR and and now plays groovey bass and vocals. Yung core namin ngayon yung natira except for Trd who used to play to dozens of bands and who used to jam with us even before. Onin and Edgar sometimes meet and talk for hours regarding rock idols and
songwriting and basically, LIFE. Except for Trd, who incidentally is the one who actually lives in Pasig. Trd is more of the explorer in the band. A day and night tripper if you will.

We Dig Music Like Glue & Epoxy

We are musical brothers. We love music. We dig rock n’ roll. We dig rock, pop, pop-jazz, reggae, funk, rap…the blues…chopsuey
na musical diversities. It is but natural for us to form our own little band.

We jam and play gigs madalas kasama ang aming radarious friends na sina Tenacious Denz at Raymond Malicsi. We hangout once in awhile and share musical tastes and sharing ng mga musical idols. Madalas si Edgar pupunta kena Chris to jam and record original song demos. Onin used to frequent Edgar’s batcave just to jam and write lyrics or record demos. We also frequent bars
just to talk about our favorite bands, guitars, compare stomps, FX gadgets, share newfound sounds and our evil plan to record our
songs. We dig music. No music no life. Pag walang RADAR walang buhay.

History : The Onions

Watch THE ONIONS recording their song Bad as i Wanna Be

I grew up in Potrero, Malabon. Sa barangay Maligaya, in a slum area where life is pretty messed up, as in magulo talaga. At an early age na witness ko na ung mga bodies na sinalvage sa canal, ung mga so called- Sparrow na bibira and just walk away na parang walang nangyari. Yung mga gang wars noon were rampant. And so were the drugs. I had to act tough too. Had to learn how to be street smart. I sometimes asked God why all this.

Also, luckily, I studied in private schools thanks to my parents and aunties which turned out as either blessing or curse for me. I did not know how to act. Sa school i saw how rich kids dress, eat and behave. Malayo sa nakagisnan ko sa Maligaya. Sa bahay naman, i had to adjust also. Iba yung lifestyle din. Magulo ung buhay.

But amidst all that, music became my refuge. I started in becoming interested in poetry and in literature.

I studied elementary at St. Gabriel Academy, then highschool in Notre Dame of Greater Manila (NDGM). Nag college ako sa Mapua in Intramuros,Manila taking up BS Architecture. Flunked Design subject which means i will have to add 1 year to my stay at the college since walang remedial classes para sa Design 1.

Mahal ang tuiton sa Mapua so i opted to study BA in Business Management sa Manila Central University (MCU) in Caloocan instead. In short i needed a way out just to graduate from college to work na. We were poor. I had to help my family who was now living in Kamuning QC ( we moved in sometime back in 1999. I ♥️ Kamuning! ).

It was in MCU that i started playing guitar, songwriting and began looking for bandmates. A then-college classmate and friend, named Wilfredo Cortel or "Tata", as he was fondly called by his lolo, who took me via jeepney cummute to Gen. T. de Leon, Valenzuela to meet a guitar "virtuoso" he knew named Sansari or Sari del Rosario. " Magaling yun p're!"

Turned out that Sari or Savoy along with his friends/bandmates were all "help" in a small store owned by a guy named papa "Jun", where they assist in the store maintenance and selling. They get to stay-in in the house/shop too. After work, at night we drank beer or local rum and jammed guitars and i played them my compositions. We really dig the folkies like Bread, Lobo, etc. Also love Oasis, Blur, Bee Gees, Led Zep and ofcourse The Beatles.

So from QC to Valenzuela, mostly weekends andun ako kena Sab. Di ko matandaan if nagpunta sila samen noon sa QC although i'm sure nagpunta kami sa childhood friend/guitar mate ko na si Kuya Judy Son na erpats ng kababata/friend ko na si Andy or Ando. We would jam there and sing the blues.

I have fond memories sa bahay ni papa Jun. Rock n roll eh. Me and Savoy got along pretty well since he too had a few original songs in the can. We tried to imitate our heroes, The Beatles and Oasis. But more specifically we tried to be a Lennon & McCartney duo. Berones/Del Rosario. Not bad sounding!

One of Savoy's early ditty was a song called "Come", a psychedelic lullabye rocker. Mine were Oasis-inspired songs like "Bad as i wanna be" which is a song about a bad boy actor Robin Padilla, also inspired by Liam Gallagher of Oasis, plus "Above the skies", a philosophical song about death and dreams. Also "Come Ride with Me", an invitation to be wherever you want to be, whatever you want to be and essentially, having freedom to do what you want. I also wrote "Waterfall" a latin music inspired song, which we played at a Battle of the Bands and won as best original composition for the first and only battle of the bands gig that we joined in.

As a duo, Savoy and I wrote "Hey Little Boy" about a kid runaway which is all too familiar plot in slums.

Here is a crooked sounding recording of Waterfall.

Here are some of the sample home recordings that we jammed that i wrote:

Bad as I Wanna Be (Recorded circa 2012)

Come Ride with Me (Recorded circa 2012)

And Savoy's :

Come (Celfone recording circa 2016, sa baba ng bahay namin )

The Onions, with Savoy's brother, Kelly del Rosario

Also covers:

If I Needed Someone (Lennon/McCartney) circa 2016 .

I started a Joke (R.M.&B Gibb)  Again, celfone recording circa 2016, sa baba ng bahay namin din to. This was sung by our bassist Eric Libre who was already intoxicated by then.

Every weekend i go to their place to jam I loved it! We knew we were onto something! It was the birth of The Elastic Onions, the eventually was shortened to The Onions. For a moment rock en roll seems to be all there is. Rock and Roll is life. And we dig it man!

The Onions is:
Edgar Berones on vocals, tambourines, synth, ukelele, recorders and rhythm guitar. Sari de Rosario on lead guitar, 12 string electric, acoustic guitars and vocals, Marcos on rhythm guitar2, Eric Libre on bass, drums and back vocals, plus my classmate, Ericson who played drums and keyboard. Later William Raymundo joined in as rhythm guitarist and doing vocals as well.

We rehearsed every saturdays in Valenzuela, in a band rehearsal studio there. Dala-dala ko pa noon yung Aiwa cassette player-recorder ko noon which looks like this:

Rain or shine dala ko sha. Tuwing may new songs ako na jinam namin ng Onions at nirecord using my portable radio, ung playback was heavenly sound na para saming lahat. Kahit tunog lata. It was cool and it was alright! I kept the tapes to this day.

The Onions reunion in 2019 at my house.

2025 reunion. L-R : Eric, Sari, Marcos,
Egay, Liam.

WATCH  the Elastic Onions jam an Oasis favorite, Champagne Supernova.

We dream to be heard someday.

1. Sugar 101: Hindi Lahat Pare-pareho

May kasamang fiber, vitamins, at minerals.

Added sugars – nilalagay sa softdrinks, candies, pastries, processed food. Wala halos nutrients—empty calories lang.

πŸ“Œ Rule of thumb: Hindi masama ang natural sugars kapag kasama sa whole foods (prutas, whole milk), pero added sugars dapat limitahan hanggang <25g per day for women, <36g for men (American Heart Association).

Aging ng Skin – Sugar binds with collagen, causing wrinkles faster (glycation effect).

Flavored Yogurt – Kahit low-fat, loaded pa rin with sugar.

Breakfast Cereals – Kahit yung “whole grain” minsan may 12–18g sugar per serving.

Bottled Iced Tea – Isang bote pwedeng may 30g sugar—katumbas ng halos 7 kutsarita.

Energy Bars – May protein, oo, pero may kasama ring sugar bomb.

Condiments – Ketchup, sweet chili sauce, barbecue sauce.

πŸ“Œ Tip: Basahin ang label. Anything ending with “-ose” (glucose, fructose, sucrose) = sugar.

High-Fiber Foods – Oats, barley, chia seeds. Pinapabagal nito ang absorption ng sugar.

Non-Starchy Vegetables – Broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, kangkong. Low carb, high nutrients.

Lean Protein – Fish, chicken breast, tofu, eggs.

Healthy Fats – Avocado, olive oil, nuts. Tumutulong sa blood sugar control at hormone balance.

Low-Glycemic Fruits – Berries, apple, pear, kiwi. Hindi biglang nagpapataas ng blood sugar.
